Zaleski Winter Backpacking with my AT Hiking Friends

It was February and it was cold, but that does not deter me or my backpacking friends. A couple days below freezing never hurt anyone so we planned time together in central Ohio in Zaleski State Forest. It is well maintained and potable water is provided at each campsite along with a primitive outhouse.

I share some of my mistakes again in this video – you would think I would stop making mistakes at my age and level of experience! Warm fires and warm meals. I slept well and woke to frost on the tent. You cannot ask for a better weekend.

Every year, Jon’s Dad hikes at least one week on the AT with his friends. This group of backpackers formed as a spin off of the Scouts BSA troop our sons had joined. We have expanded our backpacking to include long weekends in the spring and fall as well as a winter backpacking trip in January or February. Understandably, the winter outing is not as well attended as the other three!
